Are you doing Great Work? not just good work, but really Great Work? Michael Bungay Stanier is a Canadian coach who’s been working with people in business for years to help them focus on doing work that has meaning and will make a difference.
With his company, Box of Crayons, Michael’s created numerous practical tools to help us ask the BIG questions, including books, workshops, programs and some inspirational movies, which I’ve included here on this page. ‘Stop the busywork and start the work that matters’
A New Book
Michael’s publishing a new book this Leap Year – 29th February:
“The Coaching Habit: Say Less, Ask More and Change the Way you Lead Forever”.
Instead of skirting around the important issues and being oh-so-polite in our interactions, he encourages us to get straight to the point, ask really simple but powerful questions… then shut up and listen!
“Tell less and ask more.
Your advice is not as good
As you think it is”
The book is full of practical, do-able and simple tools to help make the most of working with other people.
Hearing about his new book, I listened back to an interview I did with Michael back in 2009 about his work, what keeps him motivated and about his ever-evolving journey. On reflection, what he said back then is fascinating to listen to now, as it’s still just as relevant – and it’s great to see/hear how Michael’s journey is still on that very same path.
In this interview, Michael also talks about:
- Shiny Object Syndrome and how he keeps focused
- How it might be useful to you to predict the date of your own death
- Why it’s impossible to do Great Work all by yourself
- Starting, finishing and bringing ideas to life
- Internal barriers and facing the tougher challenges
- Improvisation comedy, Scrabble and how most people take things a whole lot too seriously
- The gift of taking responsibility for your own freedom
